Henry Fong from Orlando, FL, now based in L.A. released his first original in 2010 and has been producing hits non-stop ever since. Fong’s passion for dance music grew during his time at University of Central Florida. Friends of his worked at the clubs in the area that hosted underground electro parties, and this got him listening to artists such as “MSTRKRFT, Justice, Crookers.”
In 2009, Fong had a crisis when his time at college was almost up, and was not really sure what he wanted to do for a living. Having messed around with some turntables, he ended up getting some weekly gigs playing open format/hip hop to pay the bills. In 2010, he established his own party called “Riot!” he would play whatever dance music he pleased.
Getting tired of playing open format & Top 40, Fong knew production was the only way to make a name for himself. With influences derived from the early stages of electro music (MSTRKRFT, Justice, Crookers), and 90’s hip hop; he has developed his own unique DJ style that has a club-friendly vibe, yet can light up a festival stage.
“A lot of that music from that time was really fun, dancy and clubby so I always try to make my music and DJ sets really club friendly, and now I have been trying to incorporate that into the big room stuff I have been into lately.”
Henry Fong would call himself a DJ first and his producer second. From mashups and edits to bootlegs and remixes, he took the time to make the transition from DJ to producer. In 2013 he released tracks “Hot Steppa”, “Revival”, “Jump”, and the massive “Encore” with MAKJ. His unique blend of electro house, dancehall (and trap?) has received support of some heavy hitters of dance music. (Hardwell, Avicii, Calvin Harris, & many more)
In 2015 Fong took the next step, and started his own label, “Banzai Records.” Banzai has release many electro-house bangers this year, and I’m looking forward to the future of his latest effort. His latest original “Wine Dem” dubbed “Reggae EDM” released on Banzai just proves Henry continues to innovate and keep his sound unique. He continues to push the boundaries with his latest release, a remix of the Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face”. It has a twerk feel, interlaced with trap drums and synths. I have been a fan since I first heard him, and he still continues to show he is not afraid to experiment with his sound. Henry Fong’s set for Sofa King Friday’s, at Royale Boston July 24th is one that is guaranteed to be a good time.
