Juaquin Malphurs, better known as Waka Flocka Flame, or simply Waka Flocka, is an American Rapper from Atlanta, GA. Waka Flocka claims that his influences include Eazy-E and Lil Jon, along with Gucci Mane. Waka Flocka made is solo mixtape debut in 2009 with “Shoot Me or Salute Me.” Waka Flocka was also featured on the song “Bingo” from Gucci Mane’s hit album The State vs. Radric Davis.
Waka Flocka’s first solo album, Flockaveli, debuted at number six on the US Billboard Top 100 in 2010. However, due to the death of a very close friend, Waka Flocka stayed away from music for about two years. His second full length album, Triple F Life: Friends, Fans & Family, came out in 2012. The album featured artists such as Drake, Trey Songz, Tyga, Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, and so many more.
In February 2015, Waka Flocka announced his new album, Flockaveli 2, would be released on June 1, 2015. However, in April 2015, the release date of the album was postponed indefinitely. However, Waka Flocka plans to release this album by the end of the year. It was rumored that the album would contain multiple collaborations with including Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, and 50 Cent. However, Waka Flocka debunked these rumors in April during an interview with MTV, claiming he didn’t “want big names.” He also added that “it’s too early to release my features.” He claims the fans can expect to hear “street sh*t” and “rowdy music.” He also added that he plans to put the fun back into Hip Hop music.
While fans have to may have wait for Flockaveli 2, Waka Flocka did release a new single in March featuring Future. The single, entitled “Rotation” has more of a relaxed beat. That being said, it’s still perfect for your weekend turn up. Flocka also released a mixtape on SoundCloud titled “Salute Me or Shoot Me 5.” I think it’s safe to say this mixtape is a better presentation of what is to come in the future. The songs are high energy, and sound like the Flocka from the past. The mixtape consists of 20 songs, and has collaborations with Future, Yo Gotti, MGK, Ca$h Out, Rico Love, and Chaz Gotti. Waka Flocka also just released a single, “Game On,” for the movie Pixels, that features Good Charlotte and the Madden Bros. The song was released on June 2, and the movie will be released on July 24 of this year.
On June 5, 2015, Waka Flocka Flame will be taking the main stage of the Boston Boat Cruise Series, hosted by Boston EDM. The boarding time for the cruise is 6pm sharp, and the cruise will depart at 7pm sharp. It will return by 10 pm. The boat cruise is a 21+ event, and all sales are final. The show will feature dj WHOOkid, Tickers are forty dollars, and can be purchased on the Boston Boat Cruise series website. The event will have a cash bar only, no credit cards, and there will not be an ATM on the boat.
