Blasterjaxx’s Rise to Fame

Who is BlasterJaxx? Thom Jongkind (24) and Idir Makhlaf (22), are the producer / DJ duo you know as Blasterjaxx. While they create a good team, they are polar opposites; one is outgoing and prominent, the other prefers to sit quietly in the background – a high contrast between the two characters. However, there is one significant reason for the undeniable connection between these two: their passion and love of music: “Music is our religion.”

In 2010, Thom Jongkind was known as Scalix, but decided it was time to create a DJ duo he dubbed Blasterjaxx. Thom noticed that significant progress was being made in his productions and that their fan interest and support were steadily increasing to reflect the changes. However, the personal chemistry between both producers deteriorated over time, and they decided to part ways. But Thom was not ready to give up on Blasterjaxx.

Thom believed that Blasterjaxx needed to be a duo, so he started his search for a new producer. During this time, Thom had been working with Idir Makhlaf for a while, who was going by Macosta. After their first few collaborations, it was clear that their chemistry was unlike any other– a new Blasterjaxx duo was born. Together, they had a plan to take over the world with their unique sounds, best-described as big room house, trance, progressive, or hardstyle.

In 2012, Blasterjaxx was able to show their true potential and proved to be everything that they had hoped to be. Blasterjaxx released the Reborn EP with two tracks: Reborn and Where We Go. With an EP with more than just a name, the story of Blasterjaxx was beginning to emerge. It was a symbol for their new, unique sound, which they planned to create a worldwide audience with. The “Rebirth” turned out to be everything they wanted. Laidback signed the tracks to his own label: Mixmash Records. Following the success of Rebirth, Blasterjaxx released “Loud & Proud” featuring Billy The Kit, which was signed to Tiësto’s label, Musical Freedom.

In September 2013, Blasterjaxx reached another huge milestone. Their collaboration “Fifteen” with Hardwell came out September 9 on Revealed Recordings. After just six days, the track was sitting at the #1 spot in the Beatport charts! Although Blasterjaxx had year full of great news and highlights in their career, things were just beginning. In October 2013: Blasterjaxx entered the DJ Mag Top 100 best DJ’s in the world at #71. They entered the elite class of DJ’s with legends like Avicii, Tiësto, Hardwell, David Guetta, Afrojack, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, Laidback Luke, Kaskade, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello.

Blasterjaxx are on the rise, and have already taken Europe by storm. Blasterjaxx are responsible for big room bangers like “Koala” “Griffin” and huge remixes of Tiësto’s “Adagio For Strings”, and DVBBS & Borgeous’ “Tsunami.” As their hard-hitting tracks continue to captivate us, we are becoming more and more aware of why they are a staple on the main stage. With recent releases such as a remix of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I Really Like You” and singles “Bowser” (with W&W) & “Forever” (featuring Courtney Jenaé), Blasterjaxx’s artistic chemistry and explosive sound will be a force to be reckoned with.

On June 19th Blasterjaxx will be bringing their unique sounds to Sofa King Fridays at Royale, hosted by Boston EDM. They are a must-see for anyone who likes bass, & house music. The event is 21+, and starts at 10pm. Purchase Advance Ticket HERE, and visit Boston EDM & Blasterjaxx to learn more.
