If you have been listening to “house” music lately, you probably have heard the term “tropical house” and the name Matoma (Tom Stræte Lagergren.) Tom is an up and coming producer and pianist (similar to Kygo), who has been taking the tropical house scene by storm. Tom started playing the piano at a very young age. During that period, he won a contest to perform alongside some big Norwegian pianists. As he grew tired of “classical piano”, Legargren began mixing and making music on his computer, and has grown into much more than just a traditional “pianist.”
He has proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with, “Love is composing electronic music with groovy bass lines, percussion, and synths. I love music with a great dynamic pump, but also music that is produced with soul and passion. To me this is essential to create an atmosphere filled with good vibes and tones” – Matoma.
Matoma’s first remix was a huge hit; a remix of the classic Notorious B.I.G ft. Ja Rule “Old thing back.” Which took him to the top of the charts at Hypemachine, and instantly had people listening. In just 5 months he went from an unknown artist to having over 10 million plays on his songs. He has caught the ears of some big names, and has many official remixes under his belt. Artist like Enrique Iglesias, Imagine Dragons, Tegan & Sara, Truls and Marit Larsen all have had the pleasure of having their songs infused with Matoma’s signature sound.
Matoma knows what he wants (“good vibes”), and is a hard working musician with an ear for catchy melodies, and talent for high quality productions. Tom’s love for extraordinary voice talents and catchy lyrics has led him to the world of remixing, adding a brand new feel to existing hit songs. 2015 has brought Matoma everything he has been working for. He has been booking international gigs in Norway (his hometown), Sweden, Denmark, France, and Canada. Matoma even has the pleasure of playing at one of the newest, and biggest festivals in the U.S., TomorrowWorld in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the CRSSD Festival in San Diego. He is blowing up, and this is a show you do not want to miss.
